Into the Blue Carbon Frontier: Morotai and Noko Islands

🌊 Program Brief

The Blue Carbon Institute is an experiential island-based learning program that brings together ocean science, coastal exploration, and cultural immersion across Morotai and Noko Islands, Indonesia. Designed for international students, young professionals, and ocean enthusiasts, the program offers a unique field experience where participants explore blue carbon ecosystems while engaging directly with island communities.

Through guided reef observation, coastal exploration, and collaborative outdoor learning, participants will gain a greater appreciation for mangroves, seagrass, coral reefs, and their role in climate resilience. The journey combines scientific learning with eco-expedition experiences—from snorkeling and marine biodiversity observation to storytelling, island heritage visits, and responsible tourism discussions.

Morotai Island provides a dynamic setting for marine conservation learning and cultural exchange, while Noko Island offers a nature-based outdoor classroom that highlights small-island sustainability and blue carbon ecotourism. Together, these two island experiences create a holistic learning journey that connects ocean science, environmental awareness, and cross-cultural collaboration.

The program encourages participants to become global ambassadors for sustainable oceans by transforming exploration into meaningful environmental action and storytelling.
